Alcova Heights Citizens Association is a civic association dedicated to the interests and community of the Alcova Heights neighborhood residents of Arlington, Virginia.
Alcova Heights is the neighborhood between Glebe Road and George Mason Drive, Arlington Boulevard and Columbia Pike. Anyone living within these boundaries is a resident of Alcova Heights, from 1st to 9th Streets, Glebe to George Mason.
The word 'Alcova' is an abbreviation of Alexandria County, VA (AL-CO-VA)... so named because of the land on which it was located (Alexandria County, distinct from the City of Alexandria, was renamed Arlington County in 1920).
The neighborhood was founded in 1921, when the area's landowner divided the land and sold the lots for five cents per square foot. Since then, Alcova Heights has existed as a vibrant residential community. The late-19th Century house and the grounds from which the neighborhood was created still garner some attention in the press as historical assets.
